The Phap Hoa Pagoda, a Buddhist temple in Marseille
The biggest Buddhist place of worship in the city, this pagoda, little known to Marseillais, offers a moment of meditation.
In the northern part of the city, the Phap Hoa Pagoda, open to all who want to visit, was built in the 1990s by a Buddhist monk, Tchich Thien Dinh. Little-known to the residents themselves, the building is worth seeing, especially for its architectural beauty. You will be able to see two imposing Buddha statues from a distance, one lying on his side and the other covered with gilding-they dominate the view from their posts.
The temple is home to the mausoleum of its founder, as well as a spiritual school. A complete change of scenery awaits you on the first Sunday of every month during a vegetarian lunch organized by the Vietnamese community. You will be welcome to discover their customs. Set at a large table, you will savour specialties with wisdom such as spring rolls or a vegetable tofu stir fry, under the watchful eye of the pagoda's priestess.
