With an ideal location right in Nouméa city centre and only a stone's throw from Moselle Bay, the Museum of New Caledonia tells the story of the Melanesians. Although the museum embraces all South Pacific cultures, Kanak society takes centre stage. The Museum of New Caledonia offers visitors the chance to find out more about these rich cultures through countless artefacts from all over Oceania, and is home to one of the biggest collections of Kanak artwork in the world. The experience continues outdoors, too, where you can admire the native plants surrounding the central patio, or the walkway of Cook pines leading to the traditional Kanak hut in the museum's gardens.
There are also workshops, themed days, and plenty of shows on offer all year round.
