The AC Palacio del Retiro: a hotel of treasures

More than an Edwardian palace, the AC Palacio del Retiro, opposite the Retiro, is a real museum, with ceiling frescoes, precious wooden floors, and its spectacular Suite 201.

Interior designer Lorenzo Marques has retained all the magnificence of this listed early 20th-century mansion, while providing some decidedly high-design and sober touches. Contemporary decor of the best taste reigns in the 50 beautiful rooms and suites, all furnished with functional fireplaces and a pop-art atmosphere, replete with Roy Lichtenstein reproductions. Some rooms even enjoy a view over the Retiro park facing the hotel.

Suite 201, located in the mahogany-walled library, is the jewel in the crown: spacious, with ornate mouldings, stained glass, trumeaux with floral medallions, and furniture that once belonged to the former tenants of this heritage building the Oriol family, owner of the historic train company, Talgo. Alternately, you may prefer another famous suite featuring a fresco by Julio Romero de Torres.
