The former restaurant on this site run by chef Helmut Osterreicher has given way to the Salonplafond im MAK (140 seats). With new décor and a new kitchen, it took more than three months of work and 1.3 million Euros for the renovations. While the coffered ceiling has been preserved, the furniture has been modernized, and the overall atmosphere is also pleasant and comfortable.
This was also the aim of the designers, to make it a favourite of the Viennese but also for tourists. So, you can come at any time, from breakfast through till evening for a drink at the bar. The kitchen, supervised by the great German chef Tim Mälzer, has been entrusted to Aaron Walti who worked with him for two years in his restaurant in Hamburg.
He practices traditional Viennese cuisine but revisits it with contemporary touches and pastries are given pride of place. By Spring, it will be possible to have lunch in the garden.
