Oaxen Slip: seafood's return

A seafood brasserie, specialising in freshly caught fish.

Nothing is more pleasant than to lunch or, especially, have dinner in this brasserie on Beckholmen island. Amidst ships and shipyards, you realise that Stockholm is a port, and Sweden, a country of sailors.

Oaxen Slip serves frankly Scandinavian cuisine. The kitchen only prepares fish and shellfish from the Baltic Sea. Start with some delicious norrøna herring in brown butter with its warm tuber salad, minced egg, marinated yellow beetroot and nuts. Then, order some fried fish with raw greens, root vegetables, remoulade dressing and potatoes, or the catch of the day simply sprinkled with lemon juice for the best experience in freshness. The restaurant does not forget meat lovers, who will revel in the fried pork cheeks, moderately spicy and served with a garlic and coriander mayo. Unless you would rather choose the duck confit with blackcurrants.

A perfect example of Nordic bistro, this address situated by the water is a must-go-to during any Stockholm stay.
