This is one of the first times that Brazil has dedicated such a retrospective to this major figure in 20th-century abstract art. In addition to the particularly successful survey of his paintings, the exhibition, entitled ‘Mondrian and the De Stijl movement', contemplates the participation of Piet Mondrian in this avant-garde trans-disciplinary school. The attempts of Mondrian and other artists of the De Stijl movement to create a universal language to construct a new world are explained throughout. This method even resonates in the building of the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, whose architect was Oscar Niemeyer. This building is among the top 40 museums in the world in terms of visits, and the landscaped park around it was designed by Alba Rabeio Cunha.
